Without a shadow of doubt, the State of Morelos is blessed with a plethora of natural assets which enhance the possibilities for human growth and development. Its geographical location, its, altitude above the sea level, and its pleasant and variable climate, ranging from the chilly northern region to the tropical heat of the south, have all helped to make the state a favorite destination for travelers since time immemorial.

The small territory contains a multitude of beautiful and unusual landscapes, and countless attractions of all kinds. For example, there are archeological zones as the Xochicalco ceremonial center and Olmec ruin at Chalcatzingo; colonial jewels likes the Cuernavaca cathedral, the Palacio de Cortes, and 17 convents and monasteries scattered around the State.

Apart from such monuments to 16th century architecture, there is also a large number of hacienda buildings whose imposing presence is a mute reminder of their preeminent position within the social, economic and political order of Mexico down through the centuries. Some of these have even been restored to their former glory, in the form of first class hotels and tourists resorts.

This colonial legacy has resulted in several towns and cities being awarded the title "Colonial Cities" as part of the promotional program implemented by the Department of Tourism.
